Queer History South 2026

Queer History South (QHS) is a network and conference dedicated to the preservation, research, and education of LGBTQ+ history in the U.S. South. While focused on Southern experiences, the conference welcomes those from outside the region who are interested in queer history.

The 2026 QHS Conference will be fully virtual from February 20–22, 2026.

Our panel, in collaboration with the Community Advisory Board of The SC LGBTQ+ Collection, will highlight the work of those preserving and elevating South Carolina’s LGBTQIA+ history. The SC LGBTQ+ Collection, part of the College of Charleston Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives, received a grant in 2024 to increase representation and awareness in teaching, learning, and community spaces. Centering the voices of CAB members, students, educators, memory workers, and community-based organizations, this panel will explore how these leaders sustain and celebrate the historical and cultural fabric of the LGBTQIA+ community in South Carolina.
