Truman and Doug met fifteen years earlier in Mykonos, and they built a life together long before the law recognized their family. But after the Supreme Court ruling, everything changed. Truman told us:
“Marriage equality opened the door to the joy and love of being surrounded by friends and family at our wedding at Grace Church Cathedral in September 2016 — 15 years and 1 day after we met.”
When marriage equality became the law of the land, love didn’t simply “win” in South Carolina. It expanded. It breathed easier. It stepped into the light!
And can you believe it, the day the Supreme Court voted for love, Doug and Truman remember holding each other at an AFFA pop-up celebration; they still have the Post & Courier front page from when DOMA fell.
These moments weren’t inevitable.
